There is no "more or less levelled", "more or less upright”, "more or less clean" or "more or less safe", but rather “levelled”, "upright”, "clean” and “safe". The rigour is reflected in our procedures, in time and in the rules to follow. In the light of moral and principles, being severe means being rigorous.

Respect for the principles and rules that guide the honour and probity. Faithfulness to commitments and agreements undertaken, staunch character.
To remain loyal to the business partners because we depend on them and they depend on us.
Being trustworthy for being loyal.
Solidarity. (from the lat. solidare) n. 1. the quality of being solidary; 2. reciprocal responsibility among the members of a group, namely social, professional, etc.; 3. sense of sharing another’s suffering.
Being solidary is being a friend, offering our hand with genuine generosity and bringing joy and human warmth to those who, somehow, are marginalized. Being solidary is being more human. A solidary company is recognized as a fair and non-selfish company. A solidary company is a preferred choice in business. It is a more competitive company. Volunteering is a vehicle to solidarity. It is modern, fair, cultured, friend, it is a noble gesture of moral elevation.

Courage is essential in our life. Courage to face less pleasant situations when complex issues come up, not expecting random resolutions.
It is a value that we must highlight as opposed to the fearful, cowardly and laziness.
The courage to react to criticism not with an attitude of demotivation or sadness, but rather to search for the means and the action to overcome its own reason. This kind of courage, which is also an intellectual courage, is highly recommended.

Vehement desire to achieve a particular goal. Ambition not to resign ourselves. Ambition to take the best potential from ourselves. Ambition to deserve ourselves. Ambition to be athletes in our top-level competitive jobs. Ambition to beat our brands. Ambition to get the best deals with the maximum value, due to the high levels of proficiency and efficiency.
Esthetics. ESTHETICS (from the Greek aisthetiké, "sensitive") n.f. 1. Philosophy branch of philosophy that studies the beauty and nature of artistic phenomena; 2. author's own style, time, etc.; 3. harmony of shapes and colors, beauty; 4. set of techniques and treatments that aim to beautify the body.
We decided to build the company's economic foundations under a cultured, cosmopolitan and cool image. Because it is a charming state of being. Good taste because we are sustainable and we respect the planet. Good taste because we are sensitive. Good taste just because.
Responsibility. (from the lat respondere) n. the trait of being answerable to someone for something or being responsible for one's conduct; a form of trustworthiness.
We must be certain that, before a choice, we chose what is best for both of us and not just the best for each one. Each employee is responsible for his negotiated activity and co-responsible if the co-worker does not fulfil his own task, thus preventing the common goal. A team is a set of individuals - is a whole. In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.
Construir
Interview. In a year marked by the sharp increase in steel, the value of bysteel's order book is around 120M€ which, combined with the current state of the works in progress, allows the company to “look to the future and to the end of the year with optimism” . A sentiment strengthened by contracts like the one bysteel recently signed with CERN.
The construction of a steel superstructure for a dark matter detector, which will be installed 1400 meters underground at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory, of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), could be the theme for any fiction story , but that's not what we're talking about. Instead, this is the summary of the project that the Portuguese company bysteel, dst group, has in hand. Rodrigo Araújo, bysteel's director, spoke to CONSTRUIR about the repercussions that it will have on the company's positioning in foreign markets, the source for 90% of its turnover.
How did bysteel become involved in this CERN project?
bysteel has made an ongoing commitment to technology and innovation. We understand that innovation is truly a differentiating factor. In this context, we have several projects in progress where we have been involving research and teaching institutions. Recognizing our portfolio, and our skills in developing the most complex and demanding projects, the National Innovation Agency (ANI) challenged us to qualify for this project, the CERN DarkSide-20k equipment. Qualification was a demanding process, which evaluated parameters such as our installed capacity, our human resources and technical resources, our certifications as well as our portfolio of works, among others. We ended up being chosen because we meet all the requirements and expectations that CERN has for this project.
What will your involvement be?
The DarkSide-20k is a dark matter detector that, in simple terms, can be described as a construction in the form of a large cube with 12m in height that serves to contain about 700t of liquid Argon, a chemical element with a large nucleus that could facilitate the detection of the collision between dark matter and argon atoms themselves. bysteel's role in this project is to manufacture a steel superstructure that guarantees the structural safety of the construction subjected to exceptionally high loads to withstand the Argon. In addition to the loads imposed by the Argon, the structure is designed so that the steel does not lose its mechanical properties, even when subjected to very low operating temperatures of around minus 50º C.
Was bysteel involved in the development part of the project?
In this case and given the particularity of the project, it was developed by CERN, and bysteel will ensure the proper execution of the manufacture of the steel superstructure, which will include a complete pre-assembly of the superstructure in our industrial unit that will be monitored and validated by the CERN technicians.
What resources will this project entail?
Naturally, and given the requirements, an adaptation of bysteel's manufacturing quality systems was necessary, of which we can highlight the adaptation of the welding processes to a steel alloy that is unusual in the steel construction of buildings and bridges. Manufacturing tolerances are also much more demanding than usual, and there is also an obligation to ensure full traceability of all elements/materials of the final construction.
What stage of the project are we at?
It is currently in the manufacturing phase and will be completed in November of this year.
What impact will this contract have in the future, especially with regard to the company’s image in the international markets?
This is undoubtedly a project that confirms the leading role that bysteel has been consolidating in the central and northern European markets. As CERN is one of the largest and most respected research centers in the world, naturally the work developed here will make bysteel even better able to manufacture the most rigorous steel superstructures. We believe this is the natural path for a company that believes in technology and innovation as differentiating factors.
In which markets is the company operating and what is the weight of external activity in your turnover?
bysteel's internationalization strategy has always been based on the premise of balancing risk between prescriptive markets and more profitable markets, but also necessarily with a higher level of risk. For this reason, today we are structured and prepared to work in any market, however it is in the most evolved and prescriptive markets where we have been consolidating our position in recent years. These, in 2021, represented around 90% of our turnover. In addition to Portugal, our home, and where we are working on two of the most ambitious projects nationwide, we have offices in France, Monaco, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Angola.
2022 has been a challenging year in general, how has your operation been going and what is the perspective for the close of 2022?
2022 has been one of the most challenging years in bysteel's history. At the beginning of the year, we were faced with a brutal increase both in the price of raw materials, still a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in the price of energy triggered by the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. In fact, in 2022 the price of steel even quadrupled in relation to 2020 prices. In an activity where the cost of raw materials has a very significant weight in the sales value, we were forced to become more creative and find solutions and tools to counter this effect, both by optimizing project solutions and by valuing them at the level of more economical solutions. Despite these setbacks, the value of our order book currently stands at around €120M, which together with the current state of the works in progress allow us to look to the future and to the closing of the year with optimism.
