Rigor. (from the lat. rigore) n. 1. harshness; strength; 2.fig., severity; punctuality; accuracy.

There is no "more or less levelled", "more or less upright”, "more or less clean" or "more or less safe", but rather “levelled”, "upright”, "clean” and “safe". The rigour is reflected in our procedures, in time and in the rules to follow. In the light of moral and principles, being severe means being rigorous.

Passion. (from the lat. passione) n. 1. intense and usually violent feeling (affection, joy, hate, etc.) which hinders the exercise of impartial logic; 2. derived from a feeling; 3. great predilection; 4. partiality; 5. great grief; immense suffering...

Under the sign of passion – a text of the Portuguese poet Regina Guimarães – is our icon. Passion is to reveal great enthusiasm for something, favourable encouragement or opposite to something.
It is the sensibility transmitted by an architect or engineer through work.
Passion is the dedication to a project. Passion is a state of warm soul.

Solidarity. (from the lat. solidare) n. 1. the quality of being solidary; 2. reciprocal responsibility among the members of a group, namely social, professional, etc.; 3. sense of sharing another’s suffering.

Being solidary is being a friend, offering our hand with genuine generosity and bringing joy and human warmth to those who, somehow, are marginalized. Being solidary is being more human. A solidary company is recognized as a fair and non-selfish company. A solidary company is a preferred choice in business. It is a more competitive company. Volunteering is a vehicle to solidarity. It is modern, fair, cultured, friend, it is a noble gesture of moral elevation.

Courage. (from the lat. coraticum) n. 1. bravery facing danger; intrepidity; to have audacity; 2. moral force before a suffering or setback; 3. [fig.] to input energy when performing a difficult task; perseverance...

Courage is essential in our life. Courage to face less pleasant situations when complex issues come up, not expecting random resolutions.
It is a value that we must highlight as opposed to the fearful, cowardly and laziness.
The courage to react to criticism not with an attitude of demotivation or sadness, but rather to search for the means and the action to overcome its own reason. This kind of courage, which is also an intellectual courage, is highly recommended.

Esthetics. ESTHETICS (from the Greek aisthetiké, "sensitive") n.f. 1. Responsibility. (from the lat respondere) n. the trait of being answerable to someone for something or being responsible for one's conduct; a form of trustworthiness.

We must be certain that, before a choice, we chose what is best for both of us and not just the best for each one. Each employee is responsible for his negotiated activity and co-responsible if the co-worker does not fulfil his own task, thus preventing the common goal. A team is a set of individuals - is a whole. In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.

Pestana Hotel and dstgroup prioritise human resources

Económico

The hotel and engineering and construction groups offer competitive benefits packages in the sectors in which they operate.

"When there is a 'match' between the values of the company and the values of the workers we become more able to reconcile each one's personal and professional life, and this is one of the attributes most pondered and valued by the new generations." José Machado, director of Human Resources at dstgroup, told this to the newspaper  Económico. The Braga-based engineering and construction group understands that it must "surf" on this wave because whoever doesn't, won't be remembered.

In January, the group, which employs 2,300 people, raised "their" minimum wage to €740, €35 above what is established by law. The measure was presented as a way of combating precarious work and contributing to compliance with European guidelines on working conditions and social dignity.

According to dstgroup, it is on these values that its social policies are based, and the group's facilities in Braga are its real ex-libris. The campus covers one million and 200 thousand m2 and there is a library with thousands of literary works, two football pitches, a tennis court, a fitness circuit, and many leisure and rest areas, namely artistic spots that invite meditation, contemplation and reading. There is also a restaurant with four varied meals a day and even a disco where employees can enjoy moments of decompression and leisure.

Besides all this infrastructure, José Machado highlights the existence of a set of benefits completely free of charge. Of the vast number listed, we highlight one: the Vânia Xisto health centre, with full-time assistance from a doctor and a nurse in the field of curative medicine and general medicine, dental medicine. It also offers completely free psychology consultations for all workers, which is highly pertinent as we come out of the post-pandemic with mental health issues showing signs of themselves.

In the hotel business, the largest national group, the Pestana Hotel Group also claims to take good care of "its" people. "Human resources have always been a priority for the group and surely one of the reasons for its solidity and growth," José Theotónio, CEO of the group, says to the newspaper Económico. "The Pestana Hotel Group will continue to invest in the training and development of its employees, as well as in the area of health and well-being," he adds.

The hotel group recently set the minimum entry-level salary at €750 gross per month. As part of his policy of social responsibility and commitment to ESG criteria (the acronym for Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance), the CEO highlights the launch at the beginning of this year of "a project that aims to have a concrete action plan to reduce CO2 emissions that already measures put us at a very good level in the industry, but which we want to continue to improve".

In 2022, adds José Theotónio, investment in training will be reinforced with access to regular learning initiatives, knowledge sharing and development programmes that support career development. In the field of well-being, the group offers health insurance, consultations and free psychological support to all those who work in the house.

"This benefits package we have been developing for all our employees is part of a very strong culture of trust and commitment towards the people who chose to work and grow with us", stresses José Teotónio, concluding: "people are our greatest investment".
