Rigor. (from the lat. rigore) n. 1. harshness; strength; 2.fig., severity; punctuality; accuracy.

There is no "more or less levelled", "more or less upright”, "more or less clean" or "more or less safe", but rather “levelled”, "upright”, "clean” and “safe". The rigour is reflected in our procedures, in time and in the rules to follow. In the light of moral and principles, being severe means being rigorous.

Under the sign of passion – a text of the Portuguese poet Regina Guimarães – is our icon. Passion is to reveal great enthusiasm for something, favourable encouragement or opposite to something.
It is the sensibility transmitted by an architect or engineer through work.

A solidary company is recognized as a fair and non-selfish company. A solidary company is a preferred choice in business. It is a more competitive company. Volunteering is a vehicle to solidarity. It is modern, fair, cultured, friend, it is a noble gesture of moral elevation.

It is a value that we must highlight as opposed to the fearful, cowardly and laziness.
The courage to react to criticism not with an attitude of demotivation or sadness, but rather to search for the means and the action to overcome its own reason. This kind of courage, which is also an intellectual courage, is highly recommended.

Responsibility. (from the lat respondere) n. the trait of being answerable to someone for something or being responsible for one's conduct; a form of trustworthiness.

We must be certain that, before a choice, we chose what is best for both of us and not just the best for each one. Each employee is responsible for his negotiated activity and co-responsible if the co-worker does not fulfil his own task, thus preventing the common goal. A team is a set of individuals - is a whole. In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.

The Braga Book Fair in digital format had over 70 thousand visits

Correio do Minho

InvestBraga and the municipality make a positive assessment of the Braga Book Fair, which, in this 29th edition, took place entirely in digital format. The event returns in 2021 in a “hybrid” model.

The 29th edition of the Braga Book Fair has come to an end and remains in history as the first in digital format. InvestBraga announced that the event received more than 20 thousand visitors, which translated into more than 70 thousand visits. As for books, there are more than 600 titles sold.

Lídia Dias makes a “positive assessment” of this Book Fair “despite the circumstances”. The councillor of Culture, quoted in a statement, recalls that the option for the digital format proved to be “as the most lucid in the context”, of the pandemic “allowing a clear vision to the digital universe, both from booksellers and from the Book Fair itself, that grew in visibility ”.

“The ideal was to have held the Book Fair in the usual format, however, we found a formula that allowed us to sublimate the limitations that this time imposes on us”, he highlights.

The councilwoman recognizes that the outcome of the sales may “not have been satisfactory for everyone”, but stresses that the model may have allowed a “promising opening to the digital universe”, which may enhance the next editions of the Braga Book Fair which, she hopes, “can return to normality”.

With the digitization of the Braga Book Fair, bookstores, publishers and antique booksellers found, on the Dott online platform, an alternative to the usual physical sale of books at the fair. Carlos Silva, executive director of InvestBraga, points to the transfer of the sales process to the web and the digitization of the catalogues of bookstores and antique bookstores in Braga as “the most positive point of this edition”.

For Carlos Silva, “this was an opportunity for digital modernization, which has consolidated online sales in bookstores and antique bookstores and that they will be able to choose to extend this business model after the end of the fair”.

Carlos Silva says that “in 2021, the organization of the 30th edition of the Braga Book Fair will include the idealization of a hybrid event, containing a face-to-face component, if circumstances so permit, and online sales”.

In addition to the book's sales, the event also featured the usual cultural programme, promoted by both the City council and the DST group, sponsors of the event, "in a total of more than 160 actions, which amounted to about 49 hours of activity".

The streaming sessions allowed new audiences to be attracted to the fair. There were 13 conversations with writers and other personalities. These sessions also allowed to attract a large number of audiences, since it was a broadcast open to all, via Facebook. The sessions were attended by people from all over the country, but also from Brazil, Spain, France, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Germany and other territories”, reveals InvestBraga. The online format allowed visitors to receive visits from all over the world, highlighting visits from the American continent and Asia (Macau, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia), which were joined by Europeans.

In Portugal, the Braga Book Fair was mostly visited by people from Braga (40% of the visits), having also received visits from Porto (24%), Lisbon (19%), Aveiro, Coimbra, among other districts in the country, as well as the autonomous regions of Madeira and Azores. Another highlight is the participation of the female audience (70%), against 30% of visits from the male audience.

This edition received visitors of very different ages, and the visits were mostly made from smartphone devices.

Over 600 books were sold online.

In all, and with about six thousand books available on the Dott platform, the 20 exhibitors registered at the Braga Book Fair responded to hundreds of customer requests, which resulted in sales of more than 600 books, but with different impacts in each exhibitor, some sold many and others had low sales - says InvestBraga, who revealed testimonies from some exhibitors.

Purchases were made mostly by women (64%), using mobile equipment (smartphones), and the universe that most bought were people between 25-34 and 35-44 years old.

For José Santos, responsible for the Fernando Santos bookstore, even though that the balance was not positive in terms of sales, the new format of the fair “forced the bookstore to modernize itself in terms of communication, allowing the reach of audiences that were not previously regular”. The exhibitor believes that, although the participation did not materialize in an immediate return, “in the short term, this promotion will pay off”.

For Conceição Norberto, owner of the ler.com.gosto bookstore, “despite all the constraints that the approach of a book fair on a digital platform has”, she was “touched by all the efforts in holding the Braga Book Fair in 2020 ”.

Alcides Santos makes an “extremely positive” assessment of what was Senda's bookstore first participation at the fair. For the bookseller, “betting on this digital format was the best option considering the current context”. Regarding the financial return, this was "above expectations", confesses the exhibitor.

Ricardo Rio: "We hope to return to the traditional format in 2021"

“This year we had a different Book Fair and, using digital platforms, it was possible to reach national and international audiences. That is the image that remains from this year's edition and that, despite the exceptional circumstances, has proved to be an aggregating event for an increasingly central sector in our society ”. The words are from the President of the Municipality, Ricardo Rio, who recalls that "there was a concern to develop various actions to promote bookstores, antique bookstores and publishers in order to support them to recover quickly from these difficult months".

In 2021, “we hope to return to the traditional format, and we will continue to contribute so that Braga has an important role in promoting reading”, concludes the President.

José Teixeira: "Without the weapons of freedom, literature and poetry, everything would be even more difficult"

José Teixeira, CEO of the DST group, confesses that “in a unique and maddened year”, DST “also adapted to win” the Covid-19 and that “without the weapons of freedom, without literature and poetry, everything would be even more difficult and madness would sail more uncontrollably ”.

The sponsor of the event also stresses that the Braga Book Fair “continues, as it did 25 years ago, to promote the Literature Grand Prize and to support the festival of books and reading, to support the Braga Book Fair”.

“This year, we are even more committed and we have built a cultural programme with InvestBraga having in mind our sanity and that of everyone who needs freedom and the tool that supports it, the knowledge founded on books”, concludes the businessman.
